Random Friday

Art Friday AND someone’s birthday, so…

Aapko Janamdin mubaraq ho, Hrithik!

(with special thanks to Shafali, since my Hindi still sucks).

Last drawing of 2013 (this is the version with the digital background – for the original, go to DeviantART):

2013for2014digital_resizeHere’s to a very happy birthday, Hrithik, and don’t worry, life starts at 40! πŸ˜‰

So, it’s official I have two muses – see my first order of the year? πŸ˜‰

Muses2014Probably both will arrive next week… hopefully… who knows… AHEM! Where was I! Oh, yes, Art Friday. Okay, the first drawing of 2014 wasn’t as good as the last of 2013, but well… it’s because my hairdresser hadn’t cut my bangs yet, so I couldn’t see properly! (See how good I am at finding excuses? πŸ˜‰ Yes, I’m very creative…)

2014firstCut_resizeTook me less than 3 hours, and it shows. Meh. I’ll do better next time.

Now, since it’s Art Friday and some of you might want to learn to draw… caricatures, please note that my dear friends Shafali has published an excellent e-book on how to do it. Check Evolution of a Caricaturist on Amazon.com (or your own Amazon shop if you have any)! πŸ™‚

BTW, Shafali, still waiting for Birthday Boy caricature (might put a smile on his face as well), when you have time… I want to put it next to Keanu’s! πŸ˜‰ Have a great weekend, everyone! πŸ˜€

Sunday Surprise

And it’s… Art Sunday! From last week-end procrastination technique, spurred by this article (and because it was the next in line), I give you My Muse! πŸ˜‰

2013first_resizeOf course it’s also on DeviantART – new Favorite Deviation… Now, if I had the time to fly to Toronto to see at least one of these in theaters… sigh! Considering that the first I’ve seen in theaters is The Matrix… anything before 1999 would look great on the big screen, LOL! (especially River’s Edge – love the shoulder-length hair, hehe).

While we’re on the art subject – no, I didn’t start SKYBAND 13, but I did toy with a couple of drawings.

tramontoShaara_resizeI did this drawing back in 1986 as illustration for a science fantasy novel (still to be rewritten, probably in the future of Star Minds) – it’s black paper with white and yellow pencils pasted on Schoeller’s thick paper (can’t find it here, but they used to sell it in big cardboards and I had them cut to 25x35cm – that was the 1980s, when computers were just at the beginning. You wouldn’t believe how many things vanished from art stores since) where I painted the background with watercolors.

I had already “recycled” it for the chapter’s illustration, slightly changing the hair to adjust to the new characters.

cap15_resizeThen I decided to invert the black silhouette and turned it into this… the cover of chapter 15 or the epilogue. This is photoshopped couple on watercolored background, so to speak! πŸ˜‰

cap15cov_resizeI guess it looks different from the other covers, but well… it’s the last chapter, so why not? Looks like a happy ending, right? Is it a happy ending, though? No spoilers, sorry… πŸ˜‰

Yeah, I know, procrastination technique… Having finished typing Star Minds 3, I need to check the Death of Queen Amazonia and then no more excuses, its SKYBAND 13, promise! πŸ™‚ Although I’ll soon need to start writing something new, so I might postpone until I finish draftΒ  0 – the handwritten stuff. My hand can’t handle too much holding of pen or pencil! πŸ˜‰

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Art Wednesday

Because this post is scheduled (they all are, doh! But I won’t be checking my e-mail every five seconds to see if there are any comments) and I’m mostly offline, I thought I’d do an art Wednesday for a change. Because that’s what I do to relax when I need to decompress. So, latest drawing done on June 10 – Hritik Roshan again. He’s not my muse yet, but I’m mulling over a Desi vampire, so eventually… maybe… not this year! πŸ˜‰

I got the DVD with subtitles at last, as some parts still escaped me when I watched the movie in VHS (because it never came out in Italian theaters and it’s one of my 3 favorite movies of 1999), it even has a French audio track (I saw it advertized on French movie mags at the time and really wondered why oh why Italian Duranies and Spandau Ballet fans – so numerous in the 1980s – were left out of this little independent movie). I hadn’t watched it in years (because my VCR broke) and it was great watching it again. And as I mentioned on June 8, today’s the day that my former muse (from the 1980s) turns a year older… so I’m putting this old drawing when he was 25 and I was 20 – it’s included in the artbook available only in print on Lulu. And Happy Birthday, Nigel John Taylor.

Now, I used to do lots of these drawings as illustrations for the stories, so I’ll end this with Lost&Oliver original drawing (that has been redone for the cover with Photoshop coloring). CVE3 is complete, but I’ll read it again when I get back home for a final check before I send it out again. This is a scene from Chapter 2 (which will probably be included in the sample chapter anyway).

I’ll be back on Sunday with a summary of what I’ve been doing under the Tuscan sun! Have a great week!
