Sorry this is short but I’ve had nausea for the past two days and a splitting headache yesterday that didn’t allow for any coherent thought. When you have a weight on the bridge of your nose and wish you could hack away your forehead to stop the pain, it doesn’t really help being creative.
So, I’ll make it Art Friday since it was Da Muse’s birthday last Tuesday (before I started feeling sick, haha!) and I had time to do the first pencil portrait of the year!
I still prefer winter to summer and cold to heat, but sometimes it’s really hard to get out of bed… it both cases, though! (I’m the one who hybernates in summer, so…) Now I’m going back to bed hoping that my brain clears soon because I’m on a deadline…
Oh, and it’s even Friday 13th… brrr! 😉 Have a great weekend! 🙂

To continue the Art Fridays related to my characters rendered by myself or other artists, we now have the Tales of the Northern Kingdoms!
So, let’s start with Quests book 1. I thought that story would be much shorter and I had planned to put it on the cover of Tales of the Northern Kingdoms, hence I ordered it before actually writing it. Silvano did the drawing from my B&W sketches and improvised the colors, so he couldn’t know, haha!
Anyhow, here’s Hinrik, Bellinda and Keneith on the cover of Tales of the Northern Kingdoms volume 1,
and by Barb on the cover of Quests Book 1.
I’m still working on the cover of Quests Book 3, but here you have the protagonist, Sayla, in two attempts.
As for Tales of the Northern Kingdoms volume 2, again Silvano did the prince and the adventurer for me, based on the drawings of the comic I did in the 20th century… and that I sorta kinda recycled for the cover of Prince Splendor! 😉
Splendore and Billinda by Silvano
and by Barb.
Have a great weekend! 🙂

Re: the paperback of Male Lovers volume 2 – it had been linked to volume 1. I contacted Author Central and asked them to link it to the right kindle book. Took me some digging on the Amazon links to figure out what happened. That’s why it showed up correctly on Barnes&Noble but not on Amazon. Sigh.
Anyhow, I’ll do a couple of Art Fridays, but not just of my art (that sucks compared to the cover artists I hire, LOL!). More of the various versions of my characters, done by me and by another artist – or three. The first ones were Kilig and Hakeem, for which I did the covers of the single parts, but then hired someone else for the whole novel. And had them drawn also on the aforementioned volume 1. So here follow the various versions of the assassins/lovers of Silvery Earth.
Kilig and Hakeem by Barb
Kilig and Hakeem by Cinzia Di Felice
Kilig and Hakeem by Sir Wendigo
Kilig and Hakeem by Cristina Fabris
So, there you go! Four different artists’ take on those guys! Cinzia and Cristina added Guisarme and Sabre – you can see Sabre in Hakeem’s rival and here’s Guisarme by yours truly.
This is a very tragic story for adults only. If you’d like to check it, here’s the link to the novel Kilig the Sword that gathers it all. In Male Lovers Volume 1 you can have a taste with the story that started it all, Saif’s Legacy…
Have a great weekend! 🙂

Let’s make it Art Friday!
Like I say on DeviantART, this should have been a cover. I did it and brainstormed the story, but then ended up not using it (I have a better painting by someone else) and will probably describe the characters differently anyway. Or maybe I’ll write their story too. Or maybe it was just practice.
It did help brainstorming the next story while coloring it! 😉 But now I’ll have to improvise and the guys in the story probably will not look like this. And it’s another light Star Minds Interregnum story, then I’ll probably write another dark one – again, to alternate, haha!
All these stories are short enough to submit them to traditional markets, so don’t expect any of them before 2017. I might not submit them all, but some definitely! 😉 I still have 3 Quests books and 2 Vampires Through the Centuries stories to publish along with a couple (make it 4) more collections, so I’m covered until December.
Rambling too much, so here’s to the end of Art Friday – refers to that story that made me cry when I wrote it.
And to end on a colorful note: DeviantART’s birthday celebrated.
Last but not least – The horrible hidden truth about self-publishing to keep you thinking until I come back… and get back to writing! 😀 Have a great weekend! 🙂

I could ramble about a couple of things… I did my own meme without even reading the article it refers to…Really, people, mind your own business and stop judging based on looks or color of skin or shape of eyes or whatnot. It’s just a body, and it’s what we’ve been given to be in this world, don’t mess with it. Movie suggestion: Disfigured, as already done a few years back.
And another movie watched that has nothing to do with our bodies’ shape or color but completes (for now) my series of Fairy Tales Revisited At The Movies (my own definition of it, of course) is Beauty and the Beast – the French version. Quite faithful to the original tale, except they mixed two, methink. But well, not a big mess like Snow White and the Huntsman, haha! Not sure I’m looking forward for the Hollywood version, though.
I could post latest portrait of Da Muse (probably a few years ago), but whatever…
And I’d like to repeat what I already thought last November…
Forget Western so-called elegance, you look so much better like this! 😉
My brain is still fried from the heat, so I’ll just wish you a great weekend…

Let’s make it Art Friday. There you go, the evolution of the Quests covers. I guess I forgot the K.I.S.S. rule with them. So, here’s the first two attempts:
Then I experimented with the water and fire brushes I found at Obsidian Dawn – this is my credit to them for these illustrations, the background was done with their brushes. I still use Photoshop 7, and they’re probably the only ones who provide these! 😉 The second attempt in this case is a little less illustrated, but I felt it didn’t go well with the other Silvery Earth covers.
And here’s the last attempts with the brushes, then I went back to a simpler version with no brushes, with special thanks to the suggestions of Shafali and Silvano. I would like to thank also Joleene, Cristina, Fulvio and Enrica for their input.
Now I’ve added some stuff in Book 2, so it might come out later than expected, since I’ll need the editor to do a quick second pass… so expect it in 3 weeks instead of 2! Have a great weekend!

Muse Randomness. Last weekend’s brainstorming:This week’s vignette – almost a Happiness is, right?
And it’s because…
I booked the flights and the hotel, so London, I’m coming! 🙂 And I might have time for a trip to Hastings – the battlefield, not the city as well… in less than two months, whoot! 😀
Have a great weekend!

And let’s make it Art Friday! I did only half of the sheet Sunday afternoon, but here you go, Da Muse’s Greek nose (ain’t he a Greek God, after all? 😉 )
Didn’t really finish the attempts at making a POD version of S.K.Y.B.A.N.D. and a new artbook for Createspace (who already has issues with the temporary file I uploaded, unfinished, haha!), but had to decompress after the intense creative weekend, so I did this in two hours.
And then here’s the main characters in Quests Book 1 and 2 (overlapping): Bellinda, Keneith, Hinrik and non-Human Raykim flying over them. Editor is doing a final pass and I’ll publish them in July. Since I’m not using this illustration for any cover (at least not as is), I thought I’d give a preview here.
This weekend I hope to do the other half of the first sheet, plus some edits, plus some writing, since I’ve been NOT writing most of this week – in between projects and brainstorming which tale of the Southern Kingdoms I want to write first and re-reading the already written, including Books of the Immortals – Air (had to rewrite the end of Quests Book 2 to match it).
Have a great weekend!

Totally random. Someone on Facebook posted a picture of Rome EUR in 1953. I thought I’d compare it to how it is now, since I go there everyday to work (I’m a on the outskirts of that somewhere in the right hand top corner).
And let’s make it another Art Friday with another pencil portrait – WiP and finished. Not much reading, but lots of watching to do! 🙂
And since it’s a Watch This post, here’s Da Muse’s latest (you can tell I miss his ass-shaking in movies and item songs… since 2014, gaaaah!)
Have a great Sunday! 😀
