Random Friday

Since I don’t really recommend non-fiction books, especially if they’re not books on writing or publishing, I thought I’d talk about it here. It was part of my research for the vampire novel, since I’ve never been to Mumbai. Bollywood Boy by Justine Hardy was an entertaining experience on her year-long attempts to interview Da Muse the year of his debut. So we’re talking about 2000 and 2001 Bollywood “gossip” that read 18 years later is sometimes funny.

What amused me was that they wanted to pair him with Aishwarya Rai from the beginning – it took them until 2006 to actually get in a movie together and there was even a very famous liplock that, when interviewed at the beginning of 2001, he didn’t seem ready to deliver…

Dhoom 2 – best kiss award 2006 (according to Barb)

He was definitely a shy guy carried away by his own sudden success, with impostor syndrome regarding his dancing skills! He had a long way to go before becoming the Greek God, LOL! Anyhow, it was BEFORE – for me there’s “before Dhoom 2” and “after Dhoom 2” that came after a year hiatus and he’s the best villain that ever was – but I needed to read that book to get a feel of what it was like in the early 2000s in Mumbai.

It was a pleasant read, like reading Mrs Funnybones, but from a European point of view – and since my protag is European and living in India, I did need the different view, right? I might have chuckled slightly less, Twinkle Khanna is probably funnier, but it was entertaining and interesting anyway.

And then on Saturday I did a drawing – call it Da Muse or call it Rajveer the vampire in 2005… After 2 failed attempts I was very happy to finish a drawing! 😉 So this is Rajveer who will soon discover he has a very famous lookalike… in the coming book! 😀

That’s all for today… have a great weekend! (for me it’s a long one, since June 29th is a holiday only in Rome!) 🙂

The heat is already frying my brain, so I don’t have much to say. I go out in the morning, come back for lunch time and just write.

So I’m just going to post this short comic about me and Da Muse and his stupid hats.

To see the original that prompted this, go to his Facebook page (or Twitter, or Instagram, or whatever… I’m only on Facebook, so…). Still have no idea if and when you’ll be able to read Da Strip! 🙂

Oh, and I watched ABCD, and recognized teacher Vishnu from ABCD2. Great choreographies, story okay. I haven’t seen the Hollywood equivalents such as Step Up, so I can’t compare…

Prepping for the weekend, lots of publishing stuff to do! Have a great weekend! 🙂

To continue the Art Fridays related to my characters rendered by myself or other artists, we now have the Tales of the Northern Kingdoms!

So, let’s start with Quests book 1. I thought that story would be much shorter and I had planned to put it on the cover of Tales of the Northern Kingdoms, hence I ordered it before actually writing it. Silvano did the drawing from my B&W sketches and improvised the colors, so he couldn’t know, haha!

Anyhow, here’s Hinrik, Bellinda and Keneith on the cover of Tales of the Northern Kingdoms volume 1,

TNK1ebook_resizeand by Barb on the cover of Quests Book 1.

PathWaterEbookI’m still working on the cover of Quests Book 3, but here you have the protagonist, Sayla, in two attempts.

As for Tales of the Northern Kingdoms volume 2, again Silvano did the prince and the adventurer for me, based on the drawings of the comic I did in the 20th century… and that I sorta kinda recycled for the cover of Prince Splendor! 😉

Totally random. Someone on Facebook posted a picture of Rome EUR in 1953. I thought I’d compare it to how it is now, since I go there everyday to work (I’m a on the outskirts of that somewhere in the right hand top corner).

And let’s make it another Art Friday with another pencil portrait – WiP and finished. Not much reading, but lots of watching to do! 🙂

2016DabbooPeopleWiP4DAAnd since it’s a Watch This post, here’s Da Muse’s latest (you can tell I miss his ass-shaking in movies and item songs… since 2014, gaaaah!)

Have a great Sunday! 😀

I don’t want to add to the general negativity, so I’ll let songs speak for me. It feels like life is like this at the moment:

But I’m like Elton John:

And I shall leave you with the funny version of how I feel these days – and also the stupidest reason (and probably not the real one either)…

February4blog_resizeDid I ever mention I hate leap years? That extra day in February is so… GAAAH! 😀

Have a great weekend! 🙂

A little late, but then, it’s a random post, so… my tribute to David Bowie.

DavidBowie_resizeI did these drawings back in the 1980s to illustrate my first sci-fi “trilogy” (I wrote very short books back then, if I ever get to redrafting it, it will be just one book, not a trilogy) where he was one of the bad guys. In my old virtual casts he was often the bad guy… much like Jaredh in my favorite movie! 🙂

He was never a main muse, but well… he made it to the 21st century. He was Kol-ian’s father, Emperor Seti-luc, and then Bran, the celtic vampire that turns Rajveer. I wish he were immortal like Bran, but unfortunately he was just human. Or maybe not. This is one of the best pics/tributes I found on Facebook:

So long, David… I’m still here as the world falls down…

And in the meantime there was another big loss – Alan Rickman. I loved him in Galaxy Quest, Dogma, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and any other thing I managed to see him in (no, no Harry Potter movies). Not too many, he was never much of a muse for my writing, but I will miss him too.

An excerpt remembering him (from S.E.T.H. included in Star Minds Next Generation Diaries, cover story for the Star Minds Next Generation companion):

“I have lost control of SETH World,” the voice of Alex’s father announced gloomily. “I’m afraid that this space station is doomed. It has become the Death Star…”

Izzy-lee knew only vaguely what he was talking about. Alex had told her that in his youth his father had seen a movie where there was a space station shaped and sized like an artificial moon, which had made him exclaim, “Another galaxy, another era! We’re entering Star Wars!” upon seeing SETH World for the first time, ten years earlier.

“This is not a Gaian sci-fi movie, Dr. Da Vinci,” Izzy-lee snapped. “The best Humanoid scientists of the galaxy work here! Tell us what we can do!”

“Get away from here, kids.”

“I’m not leaving you, Dad,” Alex replied. “What can we do to reverse the process?”

“Nothing, I’m afraid… Oh, boy, I sound like Alan Rickman when he voiced Marvin the depressed robot of the Hitchhiker’s Guide…”

“Cut the shit, Dad, no time for jokes!” Alex snapped. “You didn’t come here all the way from Earth to be destroyed by a system malfunction! There’s no X-wing ship trying to destroy us!”

“Alex, I’m so proud of you.” The disembodied voice sighed. “Izzy-lee, take him away now. He can’t transform into a megarobot and save this artificial world.”

And for this double loss, Chuck Wendig said it best. Death Becomes Us. R.i.P. both of you, David and Alan. One final image from Facebook again.

I’m going to copy Shafali and mention a few random searches on this blog:

shahid kapoor pencil sketch yes, that you can find. I did only one because I don’t like his new look, haha! I might do another sometime in the future.

coloured pencil and pen sketching of salman khan nope, not even if you pay me… Sorry, I know how much you guys love him but I really can’t stand him. He’s Bollywood’s Tom Cruise for me and I’d rather avoid him at all costs.

You can find the other Khan, though, the King (vs the Emperor, mwhahahaha). I even re-watched Happy New Year on New Year’s Eve…

hindi actor pencil sketch drawing mmm, yes, although a little one-sided and mostly of Muse H (a.k.a The Emperor or Greek God)… and there’s more on DeviantART anyway! 😉

As for the spam comments, here’s the first of the new year:

spam6cut4blogon the wrong post anyway – with all the Rajveer-related posts, this person picked the wrong one! 😉 Besides, methinks that vampire and human don’t go together. I mean, one is either one or the other, not both! 😀 What does my esteemed colleague Joleene Naylor think about this? 😉

Ending with movies: Dear Offline Beta lent me Before Midnight, so I spent Christmas, Boxing Day and Sunday rewatching the whole trilogy. Nice closure! I also got myself the DVD of the Invisible Boy and watched it (and re-read the graphic novel that goes with it). Now I only need to read the related novel. And wait for a sequel, if there ever will be one (although it’s hinted in one of the graphic novel panels, not to mention the open ending…)! 😉

Have a great weekend! 😀

Change of theme to prepare for the snow falling on WordPress blogs from Dec.1st. This will give me slightly more than a month to prepare a new banner. I think it’s time I look like a professional author, instead of a creative barbwire! 😉

Totally random Friday: I started using that list of blog interviews, and one is already out. Norm has been the perfect gentleman! Another blogger wasn’t so responsive… So many thanks, Norm, for having be on Book Pleasures!

I will try to space the others out in the coming weeks… splitting between Rajveer the Vampire and Beautiful! 😉 Last weekend while Cristina gave the final touches to Kilig&Hakeem‘s cover, I started working on Samantha the Witch and the Desi Vampire – drawing chibis is thankfully easier than expected! 😀

About drawing and covers, Phoenixlu (who did the covers of Star Minds the Trilogy and Star Minds Snippets) has posted this beautiful painting on her page… and it makes me wonder if one day we’ll have e-book covers like this, with water, fire or wind effects! Wouldn’t that be cool? 😉

And ending on movies: I saw Knock Knock. Now I want to see it again with a male friend, since I watched it with Cristina and we had more or less the same reactions. What can I say… Sadist Author does much much worse to her male characters, whether they deserve it or not! 😉 But I guess for men it’s quite unsettling…

Have a great weekend!

Sunday Surprise

Should have been artworks, but there’s only one new upload on DeviantART (although it’s two drawings, done last weekend). Been watching old movies and writing and reading, so… no more pencil portraits for now. So Thus I’m posting the “summary” of 2013 and how I got to doing a strip. These strips are done copy-pasting from Superdeformed Threesome Millennium, included in 15 years of Creative Barbwire – all from 2013! Enjoy.

Last week Larry Elmore was presenting awards. I commented – although I entered the writers section, he presented the illustrations awards, of course – and he was very kind…

LarryWotFI’ve been meaning to send more stories, but I don’t seem to finish one I’m happy with and that I know has a chance like The Hooded Man! 😉 I might also try the illustration contest at some point… Although the affiliation with Scientology does bother me… so we’ll see! 😀

Art Friday, while we’re on the topic! I tried vainly to share this in a post on my author page the whole weekend, and then gave up. Apparently I can’t share it because it has a blocked link, but I have no idea of what it means. Oh, well.

Anyhow, that’s the funny part of the vampire story – and yes, he has a name now. Here’s the serious version of him, before he’s turned. I have made a mock cover for the whole story, so I might eventually post it, but only after I’ve talked with the cover artist about it.

And I’ll repost the poll, since the above story should be under B.G. Hope’s name. Should I or should I not?

Thank you and have a great weekend! 😀
