Wednesday Weekly Roundup

Happy New Year! And no, I’m not going to talk about my goals for 2021 – only that I hope to hit those 500K words again for the fourth year in a row, LOL! And by the way, the grand total at the end of the year 2020 was as follow (580500 words for the visually impaired):

So, last week I wrote those 3600 words between Wednesday and Thursday plus another 8300 during the weekend (Sunday was the most prolific with almost 6K) for a grand total of 11900 words (that go in that Week 52 spot above,Β  next week will be Week 1 of 2021).

Two stories, one already submitted, the other will probably come out in February (and I might add something to it when I’m done with the last assignment). It’s a Silvery Earth story based on an image I found on DepositPhoto that will be on the cover, so you’ll see it next month! πŸ™‚ Now I have a last assignment to submit, then I’ll probably go back to those vampires awaiting for their stories to be written.

My first expense of the year was buying a collection workshop that I’ll be doing with my friend Fulvio, so by the end of June you should expect two collections of portal stories from both of us, yay! By the way, you still have one day to take advantage of the discount – I bought those two workshops for the price of one (and yes, I gifted one to him)! πŸ™‚

I went through a couple of old Silvery Earth books for the story I wrote last weekend and sort of cringed every now and then. Now, I’m not going to rewrite them, or even remake all 40 covers (some of them are alreay new), but maybe I’ll go through all of them once again. I kinda miss reading my own books, LOL!

I also plan on finishing reading all the stuff I still have on K.K. so I can load the new, still-unnamed Kindle and keep going. I have more bundles to read (and some are still in draft form, but I got the requests, so you’ll see some new ones soon, I’m sure) and books to dowload for which I loved the sample.

Speaking of bundles, this is the last week to grab the Nightly Bites bundle! The anthologies will still be there, but this bundle will be gone soon, so grab it now!

If you want to become more prolific, follow Dean’s math – I know I can hit that wordcount I set up for myself above. I have already made it 3 years in a row (after 2 false starts). Should I raise the bar? Not this year, no. I might be busy revamping all the titles after 10 years out there. Just in case.

I also have quite a few online workshops to check, although I haven’t worked them into my schedule just yet. What can I say, the Holiday Season ends today in Italy, and we’re still in half-lockdown until at least Jan.15, so… we’ll see. Here’s to hoping I’ll be able to travel again later this year! πŸ™‚

Don’t get used to having so many images in one post, LOL! And ending with some words of wisdom – something I’ve always done and always will do, this year more than ever. Have a great week!

'Write what satisfies you, no matter what. Be your writer. Be the writer you want to be. Write what you want to read. Write what excites you. Write what thrills you. Write what delights you. Write what makes you angry. Write what makes you cry. Write what makes you laugh like crazy. Do not try to be anybody else's writer. Be the writer you want to be. -David Gerrold'

15K last week and I reached 450K… 🀩 still 50K to reach my year’s goal, but this year I’m going to make it, yay! 😁 Going steady on Post-Apocalypse Chronicles book 3, stopping to research and re-reading Into the Wild since they’re now headed for Alaska! I’m having fun writing something set on Earth with the help of Wikipedia and Google Maps, but I’m much slower than when I can make up stuff, including geography, LOL!

This coming weekend I’m going to try an experiment with large print, since I’ve learned the specifics. As well as publishing a new title, just in case you miss new releases… although… did you hear about KDP books unavailable to international readers? If you’re American, it probably doesn’t affect you – except if you’re an author, of course.

But to all my international readers out there, if Mighty Zon fails you without even informing you, I shall remind you to go to the publisher’s page, where all the books currently available are listed. And if you don’t see it on Amazon.com, write them!

Or, better still, head for Smashwords, they will provide you with a very nice mobi file for your Kindle. Don’t be afraid to shop outside of that ecosystem! πŸ™‚ Look, Smashwords even unveiled a new book discovery interface! πŸ˜€

And if you’re an author running Amazon Ads, stop them until the problem is solved… your international readers won’t be able to buy your book anyway!

Me? I’m not ready to dive back into Amazon Ads. Or to try Facebook Ads. I’ve been following a boosted post, it had many likes, but not one sale, so I guess that’s another waste of money. If I wanted to try it, I know I won’t now. And I’m also spending my last 5$ on Bookbub Ads.

If you really want to know about sales, I guess this blog is the best place to go! So Rajveer the Vampire is now at 99c for the time being, since it’s the first book of Vampires Through the Centuries. There are box sets of Silvery Earth if you feel overwhelmed by the quantity of books available in that world. And we got paperbacks for all the Star Minds Lone Wolves, yay!

I made a sorta/kinda priority list of what to implement of what I learned at the Business Masterclass, but it’s probably for next year. Mostly, audio books and BookFunnel (although the large print experiment also comes out from the masterclass).

We talked about the Also Bought and Amazon algorithms, and then those were screwed too. I have too many books out to keep track to all of them and none of them appears on Yasiv.com anyway, so I’m just going to ignore that. I’m kinda tired of fighting Mighty Zon.

Well, I better go back to writing if I want to reach my wordcount! Next week I’m going back to DayJob after 5 weeks… meh! I was quite disorganized this time because of the two trips, so next time I’ll plan it better! Have a great weekend! πŸ™‚

UPDATE on the Amazoncalypse: They seem to be aware of the problem. I still think Kindle users should move over to Smashwords! πŸ˜‰

Less productive week inbetween projects, I still tend to take a day off to check the previous work and prep for the second. Except I’m adding stuff in while I write the “companion”, so I’m waiting to re-read the whole draft until I’m done with both. Still having fun with those characters and even found models for the covers – one will be NeoStock, the rest will be DepositPhoto. So yeah, I’m also making mock covers, prepping for the summer, LOL!

Although the Silvery Earth covers are still illustrations (by the Awesome Federica Manfredi), but for sci-fi I’ll move to composites. Except the Post-Apocalypse Chronicles, whenever I get to writing book 2 (hopefully as soon as I wrap up these Star Minds novels) I’ll order the cover to the same artist who did Brainwaves. Gotta be consistent in the series, right? πŸ˜‰

And we’ve got sales! Bundles sales! Spring Surprise is on sale until April 28. The Immortals and the Vampires of the World are on sale from 24 to 30 April. It is also the last week for Vampires of the World, it will be archived in May, so get it NOW! Only 3.99$ for 8 awsesome vampire novels!

And we got a batch of writerly links! πŸ™‚ First, Chuck Wendig entered an Amazon Bookstore! Yes, you read it right, a brick-and-mortar Amazon bookstore! Can you believe it? Those shelves look great, by the way.

David Gaughran on giving a voice to Indies AND how to make killer promo graphics in Canva – the one above is still plain old Photoshop 7.0, but we’ll see! πŸ˜‰ And if the demon of self-doubt bites you, Johanna Penn and writing and the fear of judgment. I obviously don’t fear judgment, but I do get self-doubt every now and then – with the umpteenth rejection, reading a much better writer, etc.

But then, scientists link depression and anxiety to high creativity, so… Even though I don’t say it out loud, I do have bouts of depression and anxiety. If it’s the price to pay for creativity, I’m okay with it! πŸ™‚

Now back to writing and prepping the next bundle… Have a great week! πŸ˜€

Random Friday

Smashwords Deal announcement – this weekend Honorable Assassins is 50% off only on Smashwords. If you missed last weekend’s opportunity, now you can get it half-price. The coupon is public and feel free to share.

POD news – edit. I have found a “new” cover artist, my old friend Federica Manfredi, therefore I will doΒ  the paperback for Axelle within next month, along with another. So Shashank is not the last you see this year! πŸ™‚

Bundles fever: I have been checking the other three bundles that should come out this month and I’m very excited. I will be in bundles with the likes of Kevin J. Anderson, Kristine Kathryn Rusch (twice!), Leah Cutter, and people I’ve met on the Oregon coast such as Stefon Mears and Karen Abrahamson (who areΒ  also in the fantasy bundle that will soon be archived), Russ Crossley and his lovely wife Rita, M.L. Buchmann, Robert Jeschoneck and Blaze Ward, and then Thea Hutchinson and J.A. Marlowe and a few more that I look forward to discover!

Now I better finish what I’m reading and start discovering new authors… And I’ll keep ya posted on those three bundles! They all come out before mine, Vampires of the World, so… I know, we can all stock up for the long cold winter (or darn hot summer for those of you who live down under!)! πŸ™‚

Writing weekend ahead. Lots of catching up to do, gotta finish those stories! Have a great end of the week! πŸ™‚

Still writing that Assassins’ Guild novella, still trying to figure out if using only one point of view or multiple. Doing the Points of View Workshop currently isn’t helping, because I know it’s a third person story and I know who it’s about, but I’m not sure if it should have multiple POVs or just onw. So I’m writing one POV now and then I’ll see how long it becomes before “expanding” it with more characters’ POV.

I translated Colors and found a couple of mistakes (castle names switched) that escaped both myself and Mighty Editor. So I corrected the ebook single, but not yet the two collections it’s in, since I’m translating those back into Italian – so if I find more mistakes, I won’t have to re-upload 4 files (2 ebook and 2 POD)! πŸ˜‰

If you’re doing NaNoWriMo, here’s the article for you from an award-winner. I don’t really write every day, I’m more a binge writers, like the ones she mentions, but at the end of the week I have my wordcount down (when I’m not traveling, that is, LOL!). I’m not doing NaNo (I write all year round), but here’s my wordcount for the last couple of weeks (when I came back from my trip and started writing again after 3 loooong non-writerly weeks):

Mon.Oct.24 – no words

Tue.Oct.25 – 1096 w0rds

Wed.Oct.26 – 1422 words (and earthquake)

Thu.Oct.27 – 1802words

Fri.Oct.28 – 1273 words

Sat.Oct.29 – 1425 words

Sun.Oct.30 – 3653 words

Mon.Oct.31 – 857 words

Tue.Nov.1 – 3653 (holiday in Italy)

Wed. Nov.2 – 1282 words (and back to DayJob)

Thu. Nov.3 – no words

Fri. Nov. 4 – 1387 words

Sat. Nov.5 – 2750 words

Sun. Nov.6 – 1759 words

Grand total: 22539words, which is well over my goal of 10K a week, although I have to catch up the “dry spell” of the previous 3 weeks! πŸ˜‰ As for this week, well, Monday no words, Tuesday I used it to go through the novella I’ve written so far after watching the second week of the POV workshop…

I’m more than halfway through, but I need to check a few facts from old stories, so I used the “break” to check those facts and circle back to the beginning to adjust the point of view. I could have waited until the workshop is over, but since I had to stop writing new stuff, I thought I might as well check what I’ve already written while I was at it.

Today I’ll get back to new words and hopefully by Sunday I’ll have another 10K done and the novella finished! πŸ˜‰

And if you’ve been wondering about book bundles, here’s an excellent article on how it works. I’ve been only in one bundle so far, but I’m thinking of becoming a curator and do my own bundle with other authors, although it will probably be next year.

If you’d like to share a bundle with me, sign up with Bundle Rabbit and let’s find each other! πŸ™‚ In the meantime I might manage to get into Story Bundle as well… if I send them links to my books, that is! πŸ˜€

I could also bundle my own books like I do on DriveThruFiction, but bundling with other authors is a win-win situation for all… much like the shared promo of last weekend! I did sell 3 discounted copies of Rajveer the Vampire (2 on Amazon and 1 on Kobo), so I guess that worked! πŸ˜‰

Now both Rajveer and Kaylyn are back to 6,99$… until the next promo! πŸ˜‰ That’s all for today! Have a great week!

Saturday Sales

Skipped Random Friday and Sunday Surprise since it’s July and there are so many sales going on! πŸ™‚ So, in no particular order…
