Wednesday Weekly Roundup

Last week I got my 10K done, both in a new story (it’s probably the start of a novel, though, so I’m setting it aside for now) and in tinkering with the previous project. This week I’m moving on to another SFF subgenre, possibly to submit to magazines and anthologies, possibly because I want to write that stuff and get it out of my system now! 😀

David Gaughran has some updates, so go check them! I might do some advertising this year, more of the backlist than of new titles, but we’ll see. My brain is still quite slowed down by real life since things aren’t improving at all on this side of the world. Maybe a nuclear apocalypse would have been faster, LOL!

This is probably Dear Nephew’s week, since I saw him on Sunday, on Monday I took him to have his booster shot because both parents were busy, and next Sunday I’m taking him to a Feltrinelli bookstore to have his Khabi Lame comic signed.

Dear Nephew is not on TikTok, but he knows the influencer and watches his videos on YouTube (unlike his aunt/godmother who follows Khabi on TikTok). I read the comic too, and it’s funny, but my bookshelves are already full. I’m trying to get rid of some books, but I’m sure you know how hard it is! 😀

The week hasn’t started well, writing-wise, because I spent Monday revising the original Italian version of Soul Thieves – much shorter – and discovered on Tuesday that I did the blurb wrong, it’s the 22nd century, not the 21st!

So I had to change it everywhere, including the paperback back cover, so the afternoon was lost to that and checking another original Italian version for a possible rewrite. Sigh. And tomorrow half the afternoon will be gone to help my parents, so I guess I won’t write much this week.

And as soon as I finished updating documents (and found out that I had uploaded the wrong manuscript on a title on Smashwords, uh-oh!) I heard the new: Draft2Digital to acquire SmashwordsThe Smashwords announcement and Mark Coker’s blog post. Yay! One less to upload to!

At least that’s my first reaction. We’ll see how it goes for whoever is already on both… will they merge titles so there will be no duplicates? I haven’t had time to read all the FAQs yet, but we’ll see! 🙂

I guess that’s all for today… big announcement coming next week, so stay tuned! Have a great week!

Writer Wednesday

Last week I wrote 12K words and uploaded Two Stories of the Varian Empire. And while I put the drawings in the Italian version of Beautiful and wrote the next fairy tale revisited, I thought I’d finally give a chance to the Moren Empire. Because I feel that my latest stories have lost emotion, which was present in the older ones when I didn’t bother with depth and setting.

So I will try to mix both ways of writing and see if I can find a new voice with both depth and emotion. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll try the Emotion Workshop. Cause, you know, you never stop learning.

And since I found these Weekend Writing Warriors, I signed up for next Sunday… although it won’t be a regular feature, but if I decide to share excerpts again, why not doing it with them? Once upon a time there was SixSentenceSunday… now we have WeWriWa! 😉

Draft2Digital reminded me of their referral program… it’s been prolonged for another year. The link below directs you to create a free Draft2Digital account.

So if you’re not with them yet, please use my referral link to join. They’re awesome to work with and they even distribute to Amazon if you don’t want to fight with KDP support! 😉 Did I mention I go to Findaway Voices through them? Yep, that’s the audio project(s)…

Still feeling overwhelmed with the changes in publishing, so I won’t say much more except… have a great week! 🙂

And there’s a new bundle out with Technological Angel it it! This is all of cyborgs and machines and all that stuff, in fact it’s called Cyborg City! So if you’re all for sci-fi, go grab it at BundleRabbit which has also the links to the other retailers… it’s only 4$ for 12 novels!

Coming next is also Vampires of the World, which is already available for pre-order, plus a couple more not curated by me. Lots and lots of bundles this year! 🙂 I will definitely finish the ones I got from StoryBundle in 2015 then I can start (or finish) reading the ones I’m part of! 😉

For next weekend only, Honorable Assassins will be at 99c. The paperback will be available some time next week – I had to redo the cover and order another proof. Sorry about that… Let’s pretend I have the hardcover, while we’re at it! 🙂

I also updated the pre-order documents for Shashank the Fledgling. I have added not one, but two bonus stories! The second is really short and I wouldn’t know where else to put it, so I added it to the ebook and the paperback. Not really bonus-stuffing here, at least the paperback (and the ebook, or course) is richer. I ordered a proof to see how it comes out, along with the revised version of Honorable Assassins.

Unfortunately it’s been a bad month for writing: only 22K for those two stories and some adjustments to other works. Maybe I should retake the novel challenge, LOL! Now I’m writing those final stories for the Fall of the Southern Kingdoms and then I’ll move on to the next project – a rewrite with sequel, then I will really stop recycling old stuff! 😉

I also have to write three more stories, two from the current online workshop and one for some open call project with specific themes – there’s is more than one, but I’m afraid I can write only one of those three! 😉 And the workshop’s not over, I might have to write another opening, so that’s another story I’m sure I’ll have to write… not to mention the opening of past workshops I didn’t have time to finish yet!

Tips for authors using social media on KWL blog. And a Kickstarter for Pulphouse Fiction Magazine, that will feature also yours truly sometimes next year! 🙂

About telling a story vs. writing a story. I probably mentioned it before, but I’m a storyteller, not a wordsmith. I want to tell stories not spend days on writing down the right sentence of finding a brand new metaphor. I call that purple prose and I skim it when I see it! 😉

I tried to read a Jack Reacher book, but I’m not too fond of first person narration, so it has gone in the backburner. I have enough reading to do before getting to that! 😀

One last thing: if you aren’t on Draft2Digital yet, you can join through referral now. They distribute to the usual suspects, have ebook templates (that I still have to try…) and now even allow audio! What’s not to love? They’re even better and faster that Smashwords whenever I had a problem… So, what are you waiting for? If you’re indie, join Draft2Digital! 🙂

Have a great week! 🙂
