Random Friday

So, in between short stories (submitted and rejected very quickly, but I keep sending them out) and readings, I managed to watch another DVD, Midnight’s Children. What can I say… I like the movie (narrated by the writer himself), but I probably wouldn’t like the book, even though the screenplay was written by the writer of the book. Not my kind of book, I’m afraid.

With the Italian holidays, I also finally opened an account on Vimeo, so I could post my video on Patreon. Soon all my book trailers will be uploaded again, yay! πŸ™‚ Not that they help selling books, but well… I have fun doing those things with Windows Movie Maker, so I might as well share them! πŸ˜‰

And I got the proofs of Quests Volume 1 and 2, so hopefully the paperbacks will soon be available. I had to redo the covers, but this means I have two books to sell at Worldcon – and if I don’t find anyone there, I’ll do a Goodreads giveaway. The spines weren’t correct as you can see.

I still use Createspace, although I might eventually experiment with KDP print. Maybe for thinner, cheaper books. But there’s still this little problem:

Amazon states more features will be added over time but currently, authors cannot order proofs of their books. Ouch. So the book goes on sale before an author can view the final product to ensure everythingβ€”fonts, cover graphics and colours, page numbers, headers and much moreβ€”are the way they’re supposed to be.

And everything else stated in this article about the two services. I don’t have that many Canadian readers, but I have a lot of Canadian author friends (including co-bundlers Karen Abrahamson and Marcelle DubΓ©), so I feel their pain! 😦

Next week I’ll let you know my wordcount for April… If I forget, remind me! πŸ™‚ Have a great weekend! πŸ™‚

Writer Wednesday

Looky look, even WordPress wished me a happy anniversary! Ain’t they sweet? πŸ˜‰ That’s why I still love them and stick to them! πŸ˜€
In spite of the keratitis, I managed to go through the document and found a few typos, a couple of wandering commas, some missing words and some extra words – if more escaped, blame it on my sore eye. Sorry for the false announcement last Wednesday, but I kinda retracted it in the same paragraph – with the sore eye, I didn’t see I had mentioned a new title out in the first part.
AmazonSisters_resizeAnyway, Amazon Sisters is out! πŸ™‚ Check it on Smashwords, Amazon, Kobo, Barnes&Noble, DriveThruFictionΒ and even XinXii – and Apple who still lags behind (got the link this morning before this went live, phew!). A special thanks to The Rodent for his input on this one – he deserves a free copy, doesn’t he? It’s coming your way, Mr Rodent, don’t worry… Thanks for being my guinea pig with a Kobo e-reader! πŸ™‚
And then we have the Giveaway winners for this blog! πŸ™‚ Coupons have been emailed to whoever entered… As for Goodreads, I just received the e-mail that it’s closed and who the winner is. More on this next week.
September is over and since I can’t read on screen, I’ll skip the writerly links this week as well. My sales went up to 6 units (from 1 in August) for Ciaran&Harith – 4 on Kindle, 1 on Kindle UK and 1 on Kobo UK. England, I’m taking you by storm, LOL! I guess my humor is more for the British than the Americans… Or is it because of Ciaran? He’s not British, he’s Irish! And I know India is a former British colony, but they’ve been independent since 1947 (correct me if I’m wrong, I can’t google it at this time – sore eye still on)! πŸ˜€
Just kidding, it took Johnny&Marian a couple of months before it started selling, and I sold it both on Amazon.com and Amazon UK for almost a year – 3 or 4 copies a month, so it’s still my bestseller! πŸ˜‰
I managed to finish the inking of SKYBAND – but now the rest of the job is with Photoshop, so I don’t know when I’ll be able to do it. The eye feels better, but apparently these things take time. And I could toy with the screen light, but I’d rather just wait.
This has pushed back all my publishing schedule, unfortunately, so the complete Star Minds Snippets will come out in November. But you’ll have another taste or two this month. Stay tuned! πŸ™‚
Apparently you can’t have a YouTube account without being on Google+, so I don’t have any book trailers anymore – until I open another account. My sore eye didn’t allowΒ  me to see what I was doing and I joined Google+, unifying my Gmail and Youtube account. I managed to get out of it, but lost the YouTube channel – unless I join Google+, then I can reactivate all the videos (book trailers).
Suggestions? Is Vimeo all right?Β  Maybe I should just open another YouTube account without my Gmail (I have 6 working e-mail addies anyway) and see what happens… although I don’t like YouTube policies, so… sigh!
Not that the book trailers brought in sales, but they look great on book pages (available only with certain retailers, such as Smashwords or DriveThru)… I’d need a premium membership to upload directly to WordPress, so I’d skip that expense for now. And I took off the videos from Goodreads and Amazon Author Central as well…
More work to do – wouldn’t I be better off writing instead! πŸ˜‰ Have a great week! πŸ˜€

Writerly updates

Weekend spent with the latest/last book trailer (because I had drawings for Earth and didn’t do anything new – but I won’t waste time with book trailers next year) AND editing the novel that had mixed comments on chapter one (talk about pleasing everyone, sigh!), so I’ll just stick to my guts feelings! πŸ˜‰

The weekend has also seen me bothering my Facebook friends with vocabulary questions for this novel… but I liked the sound of “suitresses”! What’s wrong with inventing new words if none of the existing ones applies! πŸ˜‰ Anyway, I changed it to “wooers” mostly, only once to “fortune hunter”. And then I had the horse discussion that continued via private emails (hope you heard back from me as my server was kinda crazy last night. If you haven’t, let me know and I’ll resend. You know who you are! ;-)) – so glad I have many friends who are horse experts (which I’m not)! A special thanks to you all who helped me with vocabulary! πŸ™‚

I have also added a chronology page to this blog until there’s the Unicorn Production page, just in case some reader stops by but isn’t interested in my ramblings (can’t blame him/her). The final Chronology Page will also have the Buy-links next to the title of the book, this is only a temporary list for all the books set on Silvery Earth that came out this year. What, too many? Sorry, told ya I was prolific… and that was one of the reasons I went indie! πŸ˜‰ Don’t have time to wait for trad publishers! πŸ˜€

Also, to the 3 wonderful commenters of the 20000hits giveaway – you’re all winners. I’ll be contacting you shortly with the coupon code for a free download of Conall’s Sons, also to celebrate the fact that if finally made it to the Premium Catalog (better late than never)! πŸ˜€ From the quantity of those comments I can tell my readers either aren’t interested or haven’t found my blog yet, but never mind. It’s a marathon, there’s still time! πŸ˜‰

Now back to the final touches to Earth and the trailer – if you hear about a map-maker severely beaten up by an author who had to ask him 3 times for a stupid map, hush, don’t tell anyone! Friendships start and end that way! πŸ˜‰ – wishing you a great week!
