Wednesday Weekly Roundup

Last week I wrote less than 7K, but again, I’m between projects. Haden’t figured out what to write next. I had a couple of ideas, but I wasn’t sure they’d work. Besides, most of Saturday was spent formatting the two box sets of the Star Minds Universe for D2D (and I even sent a “help!” request, then managed to fix the issue by tinkering again and again with the manuscript).

So now you have them! Star Minds is 530K and Star Minds Lone Wolves is 320K. All in one nice box set (each, of course)! Kol-ian and the Falstelo on the first cover, Kaori on the second. Check them out! ๐Ÿ™‚

The latest writing is now with Mighty Editor. I feel blessed I found her, because she’s both a first reader and a copy editor. That’s what I’d offer if anyone is interested. And yes, I pay her, so I’d do it for money too. Because that’s all you need to make your prose shine, a reader and a copyeditor. And no, I’m not giving you her name because she’s already over-booked, but I can do her job for you if you want! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Since I sent out my last submission for the year, I can make a summary. This year I submitted 28 stories to paying markets and made two sales to be paid and published next year. And I had two acceptances from last year published this year – The Phantom Gamesย and Breathe (paperback and eBook). I was also in two collaboration anthologies (royalty share): Blaze Ward Presents #3 a Blaze Ward Presents #4 and one curated anthology, Nightly Bites Volume 3.

And now another touting horn. I met both of these writers in Edinburg last summer, and look what they came up with!

Just released! Leveled Up Love – a Gamelit Romantic Comedy of epic proportions (150k words!)!

Dating Evolution is the next generation of relationship gaming with a real world twist! Did you ever wish your online skills translated into the real world? Now they can! Follow our quests to level up your love life and earn real life rewards!
Life was good for Zack Moore until his trustee managed to con him into signing up for DaEvo. Now, the buggy app has taken over his life, forcing him to leave his condo, interact with people in the real world and eat healthy to gain any gaming time.

Problem is, Zack has the biggest tournament of his life coming up. The Star Fury tournament is Zack and his teamโ€™s chance of going pro and making a name for themselves.

Now, Zackโ€™s swapping women around like the components of his starship; trying to find the balance between love and DaEvo. Good thing Zackโ€™s a pro at gaming.

But somethings canโ€™t be quantified.

Like love.

Leveled Up Love! is a Gamelit comedy romance written by Tao Wong, author of the bestselling System Apocalypse LitRPG and A Thousand Li series, and A.G. Marshall, author of the Fairy Tale Adventures series of books.

This is a fully co-authored book. Both wrote parts of this work, combining their humour. It is very much a romance. So, yes, there’s a happily ever after ending. Meanwhile you can check it out at https://readerlinks.com/l/1566449! I read the sample and it’s a blast! ๐Ÿ™‚

Also check out the two authors separately (although I’m told the final results isn’t like any of the single styles):

And now, some hope from this K-Shaped times!

We writers write out of our subconscious, and whatโ€™s infecting us all the most right now is fear. Fear of the unknown, fear caused by the uncertainty of our future, fear of catching the virus, fear of losing our jobs or our family or what we consider to be our own personal world.

That fear translates into the writingโ€”whether it shows up as fear of a project (I canโ€™t do that. Itโ€™s too hard) or fear of self-publishing (No one is reading right now, so why should I publish?) or fear of putting out an expensive product or fear of offending readers or fear ofโ€ฆwell, insert your own personal negative tape right here.

We canโ€™t really control the outside world right now. We can control our own behavior in it. On the virus level, thatโ€™s masking up and staying inside and getting the vaccine (yay!) whenever it becomes available in your area.

We can control how we handle our writing.

So anything you do is fine at this time. Publish a lot? Good. Publish very little? That’s fine too. Write a lot? Great. Can’t write for whatever reason this traumatic times are throwing at you? Don’t worry.

Help where you can. Do what you need to for yourself. And ask for help if you need it.

Weโ€™re going to get through this.

I promise.

And if Krish Rusch says so, I believe she’s going to be totally right. We’ll be fine. Even if I don’t know what my next project will be or if I’ll ever manage that collaboration with someone, even if 2023 seems so far away and I grow impatient by the minute because I’m sick of adulting. But this too shall pass, and we can only keep moving forward in the new world coming up.

A world where there might be a new copyrigth law and blockchain for authors and publishers in an age of artificial intelligence, when I no longer will see my older books with the ugly covers pop up on pirate sites and might even be able to sell from my own site. Not next year, no, but it’s coming.

Another article on GPT-3, that has evolved since the previous article I posted (referred to in this article)… It has learned to code (and blog and argue). But I’m not afraid it’s going to steal my writer’s job – or even my translator’s job, if I ever start one! ๐Ÿ˜‰

And that’s all for today. Have a great week! ๐Ÿ™‚

Writer Wednesday

Last week I wrote less than 7K but I was still busy with the anthologies and approving the second audiobook – which might be shorter than the first, but it still took two hours out of my writing afternoons one day and another half hour the next day to check the corrections.

Yesterday I had to check and approve the third and last (for at least 6 months or until I earn back the expenses) audiobook. Hopefully this week I’ll go back to my 10K or more and glad I was ahead with the great writing of the past months! ๐Ÿ˜‰

So, Otherside audiobook is obviously live, and The Hooded Man will soon follow. Unfortunately I can’t give coupons to the people I wanted to give to, since none of them are either in the US, Canada or Australia (one is in the UK, one in Italy and one in India, at least for The Hooded Man), so… I’ll decide later, when I’ve written this week’s 10K, LOL!

These are the places where I found the audiobook so far: GooglePlayiTunesNOOKaudio. Can’t find it on Kobo and they tell me that Audible distribution can take up to 30 days before the title is live there. I hit “publish” on Otherside on March 17… so I guess by Easter it might be at Amazon too! ๐Ÿ˜‰

In case you don’t follow the publisher’s page, there are a few books at 99c99p out now, in case you want to give this author a try. And there are the pre-order buttons for the anthologies.

Also, I’m in two new bundles now, Eclectica and Cat Tales #4, go check them! ๐Ÿ™‚ Again, I have updated the publisher’s page, but not this blog, so for the available bundles go there! ๐Ÿ˜‰

All this publishing stuff is stealing time from writing (although I’ll be fair, a lot of time is stolen by Bubble Witch Saga 3 too, maybe I should take it off the writing netbook and keep it only on the smartphone, but it’s sooo addictive, damn it!) but I’m still hoping to get back into the routine today.

The Lone Wolves Team is out in the galaxy fixing stuff, and bonds and relationships between members are blossoming. I already made the covers for the stories that will start to come out next month and I have chosen the images for the covers of the Legends of the Moren Empire even though I’ve written only Volume 1 so far (coming soon!), but I want all three to have the same feel.

I think the Star Minds Lone Wolves will keep me busy for at least a month, if not until the end of May, then I can go back to Silvery Earth. I have written 40+ strips for Silvery Earth Kids, but now I need to color and letter them… Now I better get back to those missions, the Lone Wolves Team has to save the universe – not! ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great week!

Writer Wednesday

So last week I did my usual 10K to be on track with the writing. Still with the Lone Wolves since it’s sci-fi July and soon you’ll get another book in the mini-series/sub-series. I’ve started another novel but will throw in more “missions” of the team anytime I finish the current project ahead of time – which normally happens, LOL!

And I also had time to format the first paperback! So if you’re a fan of dead tree books (means you don’t have trouble with your eyes like us elderly people, I had a friend asking me for the ebook because he can’t read the paperback…), you can get Sci-Fi Stories – Starships in paperback now. I’ll do the other as soon as the other anthology goes live, since there’s no pre-order on Createspace! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thank you all who bought either the above anthology or the bundle Sci-fi July Redux. Remember this bundle won’t be out forever and it’s 10 novels of sci-fi space opera for your entertainment, so if you like space opera, make sure to grab it now.

I mean, look at those names! Kevin J. Anderson! Robert Jeschoneck! Kristine Kathryn Rusch! Dean Wesley Smith! Barbara G.Tarn! Er… scratch the last one, she’s a nobody! ๐Ÿ˜‰

But well, if I make it big, you can say you started following me before I got famous! ๐Ÿ™‚ Before I got published in some traditional mag (which at the moment is scheduled for January 2019 – unless I sell something else in the meantime)! ๐Ÿ™‚

If you prefer short stories, there’s always the curated anthologies… and hopefully soon more short story collections (gotta write them first, though!)! ๐Ÿ™‚

Next weekend I’ll prepare Jes-syd and the second anthology goes live… In the meantime I better go back to writing. Have a great week! ๐Ÿ™‚

Writer Wednesday

And since I was reading so much sci-fi, I decided to keep writing sci-fi – well, science fantasy, since that’s what Star Minds is. So I will write more stories of Star Minds Lone Wolves in July then we’ll see. Because I don’t have to do research for those and I even re-read some of the older books (which meant I had to make a last minute change to the latest title) while looking for a story.

And after Icy Aya, please welcome Shanell! ๐Ÿ™‚ Our starship pilot, that you first met in Star Minds Third Generation Snippets or you can find in the upcoming anthology Sci-fi Stories – Starships, finally has her short novel! Here’s the birth of the cover with the evolution from Techie Bro’s version to the current one – a change of look and starship that was already hinted at in Adventurer.

David Farland answers the question Does Social Media Work? You know the answer, don’t you? Nope, nope and nope! Not anymore! Especially not Facebook! ๐Ÿ˜‰ So let’s start thinking outside the box (and ignoring those Facebook “suggestions” that only want you to spend some money on Facebook ads). How? Dunno. Experiment.

I’m keeping this blog active and the publisher’s page updated. Does that help? Dunno. Too early to say. But if you want some predictions on where social media are going, check out this forecast. I look forward to less self-promotion and more effortless self-expression! ๐Ÿ™‚

I will mention today is the day Sci-fi July Redux aaaand Sci-fi Stories – Starships go live! Go grab them! Fill your e-readers with some sci-fi for a thrilling summer! ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes, even bundles don’t sell that much anymore. I guess we saturated the market… Not sure about the anthologies, since mine never sold much… but after spending a long weekend curating the next, I sure hope you’ll at least check them out! ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, I enrolled some books in the Summer/Winter Sale at Smashwords… go check all the authors participating! ๐Ÿ™‚ Useless to put my own profile, since it doesn’t show in the list which are discounted and which aren’t… I made a list on the publisher’s site! ๐Ÿ™‚

Last but not least, What I Learned by Dean Wesley Smith… from him and Kris Rusch I learned what Harlan says: Money flows TO the writer! Not that I’m getting much yet… sigh! But it’s the year of writing and being halfway, I’m at 270K, so… I’ll just keep writing. And maybe publishing, LOL!

Have a great week! ๐Ÿ™‚

Writer Wednesday

So I’m all set with New Netbook that has Office 365 installed… and suddenly I understand why in the past a beta-reader told me there were missing words/sentences in my manuscripts. Apparently Office 365 hates Open Office by Oracle and doesn’t show the last line of something written originally to be saved as ODT (I always save as Word.doc, but I guess there’s something underneath that I don’t see)!

Thus I need to be careful when I write something on Laptop, since Netbook won’t show me everything. But since it’s low on memory, I guess I can uninstall Office 365 and download Open Office instead – problem solved! ๐Ÿ™‚ As soon as either Techie Bro or a Techie Friend helps me, I’ll get rid of the problem…

EDIT – SINCE THIS ONE WAS UNFINISHED, I’M PASTING THE SECOND ONE BELOW AND WILL DELETE IT…

So I had the creative weekend, and I managed to do 2 covers for upcoming projects, plus I got the cover for Fall of the Southern Kingdoms, so Easter Weekend I will put on the publisher’s hat again. I’m quite happy with one of the covers, but you’ll see it soon enough.

Plus I finished editing another project (the one I made the cover for) and sent out a short story I wrote in the middle of the current project (it was a prequel/backstory for a character in the series anyway), so I didn’t write as much as expected, but it’s fine.

Now I must finish the current project before April 22nd when I hope to get to London for a couple of days of research (so I won’t have time to meet my British friends – again. Sorry…) before coming back and hopefully doing some prep work for this summer’s publishing.

I’m thinking of doing another online workshop, but at the same time I feel I have too many projects this year and won’t be able to write them all – if I do, I’ll hit that wordcount, though! ๐Ÿ˜‰ So maybe I’ll postpone more workshops to next year. Both the craft and business things.

What else? Well, if you crave vampire stories, both Nightly Bites are now available in paperback and ebook, so go get them! And if you want longer works, Vampires of the World is still out there.

I will also start putting together a new bundle on another topic next month, so stay tuned. Here’s the list of the currently available bundles I’m in – for all tastes, really, take your pick! Have a great week! ๐Ÿ™‚
