various topics & an award

Here is another reason for NOT writing in my mother tongue: what’s going on in Italy with the publishing industry. I’ve mentioned I never wanted to pay to be published, but dozens of my fellow Italian writers are not so picky. I’m glad to see that the new generations are a little smarter than that! πŸ˜‰

Also, for you younger people who still have to decide what to do with your life and would love to live on writing, I suggest you check Chris Guillebeau. He was on the list of Writer’s Digest 101 best Websites for writers (I’ve just started going through it, will post anything I find interesting in there as soon as I find it) and they say:

The free download of 279 Days to Overnight Success is worth the visit alone. Other info for entrepreneurial-minded writers – including articles, a blog and an e-mail newsletter – will keep you coming back for more.

I did download the free e-book, and found some interesting tips in it (so it’s in my e-book folder for the keeping, ha!:-D). But it’s even more interesting for whoever wants to live an unconventional life and make money out of it. So hop there and check it, you might want to go back for more (I probably won’t, but you never know! ;-)). This guy wants to visit all the countries of the world by his 35th birthday in 2012 AND has a site called The Art Of Non-Conformity, what’s better for a writer?? πŸ™‚

You might also notice that I added a “Grammar etc” category in the sidebar. Again, thanks to Writers Digest 101 best webpages for writers (except Conan the Grammarian, who was already there). On Grammar Girl there’s an interesting bit on understanding voice and tone in writing – so not just grammar. Still have to check all the articles, but I thought this one needed a mention.

And finally, I got another blog award, thanks to Cassandra.

Here are the rules:

  1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award. Thanks again Cassandra!
  2. Share 7 things about yourself. See below.
  3. Pass the award along to 5* bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic for whatever reason! (*Changed from 15 to 5, but I’ll leave it up to you the amount you want to give.) Also see below.
  4. Contact the bloggers you’ve picked and let them know about the award. To do…

Seven things about me that you can’t read on my ABOUT page (I’ve already done this and can’t remember what I said – I’m getting old! – so I might repeat myself here):

1.Β  I have a day job, my real job is writing (and drawing), and my hobby is making jewelry with beads.

2. I love watching movies, but often are too lazy to go to the cinemas (also because everything is dubbed in Italian over here, the few cinemas who show in original version are in the center and I live in the outskirts), so I have a collection of DVDs (and some VHS) that would put my local Blockbuster to shame.

3.Β  I have a song lyric or movie line for almost everything that happens in life.

4.Β  I am fluent in three languages, but my favorite is not my mother tongue.

5.Β  I hate the summer, I’m a winter person – still miss the snowy winters, and I’ve been living back in Rome since 1978 (snow: 1985, lasted a couple of days. 1986 and 2010 lasted a few hours).

6. I’m a girl, and love this blog award color, but my favorite color is blue.

7. I have friends all over the world and love it!

As to passing this award along… By the way if you want to know why I’ve given them the award, click on the link and check out these very interesting blogs. Some might already have the award, but I lost track of who won what, so… there you have it… again! πŸ˜‰

    • πŸ˜€ blue like the sky, like the sea, like forget-me-nots, like… well, I usually wear blue (jeans or not), but sometimes a pink t-shirt is fine too! πŸ˜‰

  2. I love that you have a song lyric or movie quote for nearly everything that happens. I tend to have a quote for just about every occasion.

Thanks, Barb πŸ™‚ But you’re one on the list of who I’d have given the award to… I’ll have to come up with a different list of who to give it to, too. LOL.

It might take me a little while to carry out my award duties. I owe one to @LeahPeterson, too…so will have to perform those very delinquent award duties first. I’m a terrible award recipient.

    Love your blog!
