Happines 101 award

It’s Easter, and I’ve been given my first blog award. Wow. Thank you, Madison, for including me!

So, I’m supposed to list 10 things that make me happy, and pass it on to five people. Having a Happiness Is vignette every Monday, it should be easy, right? Wrong. Because I have at least 30 of those, so I’ll have to choose…

Sorry for being late in posting it… guess I fell back in blog-reading these days…

My list (as it comes to mind, in no particular order):

1. Spending time with friends

2. Traveling and discovering new cultures

3. Creative mode (it’s like being in love)

4. Living at my own speed -even if sometimes I get hysterical anyway… πŸ˜‰

5. Watching sunsets or night skies (looking for shooting stars)

6. Daydreaming – it’s like creating! πŸ™‚

7. Writing in all its forms

8. Discovering a new writer friend

9. The smell of freshly cooked bread or freshly cut grass

10. Finding my own way, mostly through improvising.

I’d like to pass this to these five blogger friends: Prue, Mickey, Hema, June, Vajra! You five post your link here in the comment section, thank you.

  1. Good day, Barb. Thanks for the shout out.

I forgot about aromas that make me happy, LOL. Freshly mown grass would be one favorite that brings happy feelings. But I guess my favorite is the combined smell of leather, hay, and horses – a barn πŸ™‚ Okay, so I’m weird. Haha. I can’t help it.

Ah- I forgot to add β€œdaydreaming” to my happy list πŸ™‚ Great list Barb!

  5. I just finished the DSN “Don’t Say No” course from “Art of Living” – it was an intense, purifying three days that was all about being happy in every moment of your life… now just as I got home at the end of a night of dance to end the course, I sit down and log in to read your post on happiness… the synchronicity of life is always a wonderful thing. Cheers!

  6. Ah yes, as for me, I feel the one thing that stops a person from being happy in every moment is the conditions we put on our own happiness…

    I’ll only be happy IF…
    I won’t be happy UNTIL…

That very “if” and “until” are an unnecessary block on feeling happy for no particular reason right here, right now. I find it very rejuvenating, liberating, to be happy for no particular reason at all.

I remember hearing once that everytime the mind is concerned about something that happened in the past, or something that hasn’t happened yet… in that lack of presence, lack of awareness, lies the root of unhappiness… Not in the sense that you shouldn’t look back fondly at your past, but rather in the sense that we mostly look back with the idea of “I could have done it differently.” But if we stay in the present moment… in the “right now”… you can’t help but be happy… it is a natural state.

This is what I work on daily, I find the logic behind it intrinsically valuable.

  8. Thank you, Barb! What a lovely way to begin this new week! I know exactly what you mean by: “There are so many things that make me happy, how do I choose?” I know I’ll have fun making up the list, though. I’ll post the link back here when I post the list on my blog next week. Thanks once again!

  9. I agree with your post, Barb . . . quite similar ideals. And thanks for nominating me as a blogger-friend.
